Attendant Deities of Buddha

Ryukoku Museum
Starts 9/21
Kenzoku refers to the venerable figures who accompany and serve the main deity or bodhisattva that is the object of faith. In Buddhist art, they are depicted surrounding the main deity, fulfilling roles such as protecting the Buddhist teachings and bestowing benefits upon the followers of the main deity. The special exhibition “Kenzoku: Companions of the Buddha,” held last year at the Ryukoku Museum, is being upgraded to a major exhibition this autumn, featuring approximately 80 works from various regions. Enjoy the unique and diverse representations of kenzoku, the outstanding supporting characters in Buddhist art.
