Mé: Obviously, No One Can Make Heads Nor Tales

Chiba City Museum of Art
Finished
This is the first large-scale solo exhibition by the internationally renowned contemporary art collective [mé]. Through the dramatic transformation of this large space, the works on view foster a sense of the uncertainty in the physical world.
Within the Chiba Prefecture, the discovery of the “Chibanian” Ancient Strata indicates the reversal of the Earth’s magnetic poles hundreds of thousands of years ago. It is upon the geological succession of such natural cataclysms—the causes of which are still unclear—that we have built our “everyday” world, resting precariously on the Earth’s outer crust.
In this exhibition, the entire museum facility, including visitors’ own movements and awarenesses, will be rearranged as a large-scale installation work. Contrived through the accumulation of various actions and reactions, this dynamic exhibition space invites visitors to experience a new kind of “everyday.” And, in so doing, it will hopefully encourage new perceptions of our “everyday” world that we so often overlook as ordinary.
