“No matter how dirty the walls are, please draw as much as you want,” said the gallery owner.
When I was in my twenties, I started to work on this series because I was shocked by the graffiti on the wall of the downtown area in Osaka. The theme of the activity so far is “Words of Prayer”. I’m interested in what the insides of unnamed people are drawn with letters and symbols. It is because the place and time where the person existed are condensed and their trajectory is left there.
It’s important for me to sometimes leave the atelier, go to a different place, and work there. This is because if I make something outside that I don’t feel in the usual space, I can detect it sensitively. For me, ”Cross Border” means moving across a border to another world or place. It is also a courage to go from the traditional inner world to the unknown world outside. Stroll around Suehirocho, Yushima, Ueno, and Akihabara, feel the current Tokyo, and express my thoughts with words and symbols on the wall of the gallery. I’m really looking forward to seeing my solo exhibition as my first experience in Tokyo.
