This exhibition brings together around 130 of “simple forms” from around the world, and across the ages, presented in nine sections, offering a panoramic view of a timeless, universal aesthetic, showing the geographical spread and historic links of that aesthetic from prehistoric stone to dynamic, cutting-edge installations by contemporary artists. As modern society confronts the issues of sustainable growth and coexistence amid the turbulence of globalization, ahead of diversity perhaps we should be seeking an essential universality able to be shared by all. The universal beauty of “simple forms” may prompt us to rethink what truly brings richness to our lives.
