Building upon a 35-year mission of supporting emerging artists first established with the “Outstanding Rising Artists Award” of the Sompo Japan Fine Art Foundation, FACE (“Sompo Japan Nipponkoa Art Award”) is a recent initiative in the form of a new open-entry competition. The 3rd FACE exhibition has seen the entry of many attractive works from 748 emerging artists throughout Japan. From these entries, jury members have selected 70 works of international appeal through a process of careful consideration. The Grand Prix Award work will become a part of the museum’s collection, and will also be showcased at the next FACE exhibition along other winners given the opportunity to present their work in group exhibitions to be held over the next three years.
