Maromon, Suzusan
Maromon is a Japanese brand known for their contemporary "mon" (crest) design, and Suzusan is a textile company which carries on the tradition of "Arimatsu-Narumi Shibori," a traditional dying technique developed in the Obari area. These two creative agencies gave birth to a series of unique T-shirts for this exhibition.

History of Arimatsu-Narumi Shibori
In the Edo period, Arimatsu-Narumi in the Obari region was a popular spot for travelers to stop by along the Tokaido route. Back then, many craftspeople from all over Japan came to the area to participate in the building of Nagoya Castle. Inspired by the unique "mon" decorations on the clothing of craftspeople from Bungo in Kyushu, Shokuro Takeda invented "shibori," an extremely meticulous tie-dying technique, and sold the items as souvenirs. There are about 100 patterns in Arimatsu-Nrumi Shibori, which is supposedly the largest variety of tie-dying methods in the world. Even the same method has different results depending on the hands of the craftsmen.

This exhibition provides an opportunity for people to casually get exposed to Japanese tradition.
