Shunsuke Matsumoto
This year marks the 110th anniversary of the birth of Shunsuke Matsumoto (1912-1948). Just before the Pacific War, Matsumoto published a letter titled "Living Painter," advocating for artistic freedom, and immediately after the war, he sent a letter to all Japanese artists asking them to unite in the pursuit of art. This exhibition features 12 works focusing on portraits, including the oil painting "Child with a Cup" (1942) and drawings by Matsumoto depicting his beloved son, who was three years old at the time. The oil painting "Child with a Cup" has rarely been shown in public. A catalog will be published in conjunction with the exhibition.
