Artists

Kiyoshi Yamashita
Kiyoshi Yamashita (1922-71), known as a "wandering genius," began his wandering at the age of 18 and continued to create works of art until, at the age of 31, his artistic talent was noticed by the American Graph magazine, which brought him into the limelight. He continued to create a wide range of works, including pasteboard paintings, which have been loved by people as "original Japanese landscapes," until his death at the age of 49.

This exhibition features approximately 190 works, including studies from the sketchbooks he brought with him on his trip to Europe in 1961, which are being exhibited for the first time, along with pasteboard paintings, oil paintings, watercolors, pen drawings, and ceramics. In addition to discovering new aspects of Yamashita's art, the exhibition also looks back on the lifelong creative activities of Kiyoshi Yamashita in the centennial of his birth.
