The summer vacation season is just around the corner! After a four-year break, the “Summer Night Museum” program returns to the Tokyo cultural facilities. Five museums will extend their opening hours and offer special prices during the summer nights: Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum, Tokyo Metropolitan Teien Art Museum, Tokyo Photographic Art Museum, Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo, and Tokyo Shibuya Koen-dori Gallery. The program will run from July 20 to August 31, every Friday from 17:00 to 21:00 (admission 30 minutes before the closing time), except for the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography, which will also be open on Thursdays.
From the Depths of Ueno, a Story Begins exhibition by Tamana Araki at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum will be open from 17:00 to 20:00 on July 28, August 4, 11, 18, and 25. Students can enter for free, and a ¥200 discount will be available for adults and seniors over 65.
Finnish Glass Art - Sparkle and Color in Modern Design exhibition at the Tokyo Metropolitan Teien Art Museum will be open from 17:00 to 21:00 on July 21, 28, August 4, 11, 18, and 25. Free entry for students and group rates will apply for adults and seniors over 65.
Two exhibitions at the Tokyo Photographic Art Museum, TOP Collection: A Genealogy of “Peep Media” and the Gaze and Motohashi Seiichi & Robert Doisneau —Chemins croisés (Narrative Passages), will be open from 17:00 to 21:00 on July 20-21, 27-28, August 3-4, 10-11, 14, 17-18, 25, and 31. Tanuma Takeyoshi “Viva Humanity!” exhibition will be open on July 20-21 and 27-28. Free entry for students and group rates will apply for adults and seniors over 65.
Two of three exhibitions at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo - How I Feel is Not Your Problem, Period. and MOT Collection: Membrane of the Time Special feature | Yokoo Tadanori―Ever-Changing, Like Water 100th Anniversary of Birth | Sam Francis - will be open from 17:00 to 21:00 on July 21, 28, August 4, 11, 18, and 25. Discounts on tickets and free admission for students and those born on or after April 2, 2005. David Hockney Exhibition is not part of the program, but the curator in charge will give gallery talks (*in Japanese) on July 21 and August 25.
Imaginative Drawings in Monochrome at the Tokyo Shibuya Koen-dori Gallery will be open from 17:00 to 21:00 on July 28, August 4, 11, 18, and 25. Exhibition of RAW03 costumes will be part of the program on July 28. Admission is free.
