Kawara Museum of Takahama City, a Hometown of Ceramics

Aichi Prefecture's Takahama City is the main and the largest producer of Sanshu tiles in Japan. The museum opened in 1995 as the only museum in Japan specializing in tiles. Here, the tiles are introduced from an artistic viewpoint, and the museum serves as a local center for cultural and artistic activity.
The museum introduces tiles and pottery both from Japan and the world, as well as related artworks (paintings, prints, ukiyo-e, calligraphy, photography) through permanent and special exhibitions.
Various special exhibitions including topics such as tiles and pottery, original pictures from picture books, art brut and subcultures, topics related to peace and other, are held at the museum as well.
