Ueno Royal Museum

The Ueno Royal Museum was established in 1972 by the Japan Art Association, whose president is His Imperial Highness Prince Hitachi-no-Miya Masahito. Although it does not have a permanent collection, the museum has been attracting attention for its exhibitions of various genres, from Western paintings and calligraphy to ukiyoe prints and manga. The VOCA Exhibition, a contemporary art exhibition that introduces outstanding young artists, the Ueno Royal Museum Grand Prize Exhibition, which attracts attention as a gateway to success in the art world, and the Japanese Nature Painting Exhibition, in which anyone can easily participate, are also held every year. On the third floor, there is the Uenonomori Art School, which is run by the museum and offers a wide range of activities that allow visitors to not only appreciate art but also learn about it.
