YAYOI MUSEUM

Takumi Kano founded the Yayoi Museum on June 1, 1984. In 1929, when Kano was nine years old, he came across a picture entitled "Goodbye to my hometown!" by Kasho Takabatake, an illustrator who work had caught the spirit of the time. This experience made a deep impression on Kano. In Spring 1965, 36 years after Kano saw the picture, he found an article in a magazine from which he discovered that Kasho had lived at Airoh-en, a retirement home in Akashi-city. Kano wrote a letter to Kasyo about his impressions of Kasho's pictures. With this their relationship started. Kano made a room for Kasho in his own house, which Kasho had already visited many times.

Kasho passed away at 78 years old. After obtaining the copyrights to Kasho's work, Kano founded the Yayoi Museum in order to exhibit the Kasho collection.
