 The Fire Museum’s official name is the Tokyo Fire Department Firefighting and Disaster Prevention Reference Center. The Fire Museum was opened on December 3rd, 1992 as an education and public relations facility for people to fully understand the way the fire service elevates safety in Tokyo.
Approximately 8,000 reference materials are stored in the museum including documents and historical items. The exhibits in the museum focus on original articles such as woodblock prints, publications, manuscripts, and firefighting equipment from the Edo era as well as water pumps, uniforms, and tools used in firefighting activities from the Meiji era to the present.
