Kuniyoshi Utagawa
Kuniyoshi Utagawa (1797-1861) was one of the three members of the Utagawa school (Hiroshige, Kunisada (Toyokuni III), and Kuniyoshi) who shared the popularity of the ukiyo-e world at the end of the Edo period.

Kuniyoshi's innovative and rich ideas not only revitalized the Ukiyo-e world of the time but also had a profound influence on later generations, as he is said to be the root of gekiga (dramatic art). The recent reappraisal of Kuniyoshi's work has been particularly remarkable. This exhibition introduces Kuniyoshi's diverse and varied artistic practice through approximately 160 works, including his masterpieces, caricatures, Western-style landscapes, and rare paintings.

A related exhibition features woodblock prints from the Urawa Art Museum collection. The exhibition introduces the expansion of woodblock prints along with the world of Kuniyoshi's ukiyo-e prints.
