Traveling Collection: Artists Who Crossed the Sea

Fukui Fine Arts Museum
Finished
In the past, many Japanese artists have traveled overseas to improve their skills and find new opportunities, particularly to Paris in the 1920s. Suzuki Chikuma, a Western-style painter with ties to Fukui Prefecture, traveled to Europe, sketched local landscapes, and was inspired by painting movements such as Fauvism. Works from the collection will be introduced by artists who have gained experience abroad. We will also introduce artists who have won awards at international exhibitions, such as Onosato Toshinobu and Ay-O.
