The Tokugawa Art Museum Collection - Treasures of the Owari Tokugawa Family

Suntory Museum of Art
Finished
The Tokugawa Art Museum houses numerous treasured items passed down through the Owari Tokugawa family, the leading branch of the three noble families related to the Tokugawa shogunate.

Among the museum's collection are heirlooms such as "Sunpu Owakemono," the belongings of Ieyasu Tokugawa, cherished items from successive heads of the family and their wives, swords, tea ceremony utensils, incense tools, and Noh costumes. These artifacts showcase the history and the elegant, high-ranking samurai culture of the Owari Tokugawa family.

This exhibition presents a rare opportunity to see some of the finest pieces, including the National Treasure "Tale of Genji Picture Scroll" and the National Treasure "Hatsune Furnishings," brought as wedding trousseau by Chiyohime, the eldest daughter of the third shogun Iemitsu.
