Rintaro Fuse
Born in 1994, Rintaro Fuse creates artworks that manifest the changes and discomforts in human consciousness and practices, as well as the distance and communication between society and individuals, which have been evolving rapidly in the media environment since the release of the iPhone. His works, realized through paintings and video pieces, visualize the transformation of awareness that exists but remains unseen. Fuse is not only active in creating artwork but also engages in various forms of expressive activities, including criticism, poetry writing, exhibition planning, and website production. He stands out among artists of his generation for his energetic creative endeavors.

In 2020, he presented a series of artworks in rapid succession, such as the online exhibition "Quarantine-style Close Contact Room" (a web page accessible by only one person at a time), "New Corpse" (Parco Museum Tokyo), and in 2023, "Statement of Insulation" (Snow Contemporary). Concurrently, he compiled a collection of newly written poems titled "Tears Catalog" that includes numerous re-edited works released up to that year and published a book titled "How to Write Love Letters," thoroughly exploring the notion of "being two" as an artist living in the present. This year, he also participated in the group exhibition "Has This Room Been Home to Future Artists?" (The National Museum of Western Art) with a new installation.

In the exhibition "Sex and Earth," Fuse confronts themes laden with contrasts and contradictions. While he has previously presented numerous works on the dynamics of interpersonal relationships and communication, this time, he explores a wide range of themes spanning from humans, organisms, and mythology to contemporary society in a multi-layered approach. For this exhibition, Fuse has chosen the concept of a casemate (a man-made fortress with artillery placements) as a subject of contemplation, traversing thoughts and imagination around events, sacrifices, and outcomes that have occurred over the years. Through the planned video works, flat works, and objects to be exhibited, Fuse endeavors to carve out a unique sense of the present era into history while confronting inherited myths and past events.
