Resonating Japanese Art

Hosomi Museum
Finished

Artists

Jakuchu Ito et al.
The Rimpa School is considered a symbol of Japanese art, and Jakuchu Ito a painter of outstanding originality. Widely known and popular not only in Japan but also abroad, their works have fascinated creators of later generations and remain a source of inspiration.

Borrowing scenes from famous paintings of the Edo period (1603–1868), this exhibition features Japanese pop culture characters from manga and anime in contemporary Nihonga paintings presented together with works by Jakuchu and the Rimpa School. It commemorates "Rimpa Feat. Manga: Japanische Malerei aus der Sammlung Hosomi," which was held at Museum Fünf Kontinente in Munich from autumn 2021 to spring 2022 under the auspices of the Japan Foundation. Enjoy this fusion of classical and contemporary Japanese art loved by people around the world.
