Noboru Baba
Known as the author of the picture book series "11 Piki no Neko," manga artist Noboru Baba (1927-2001) is celebrated for his lovable yet sometimes mischievous cats that continue to be cherished by a wide range of generations.

Baba debuted as a manga artist in 1948 and moved to Tokyo the following year. He gained popularity as one of the "Three Glass Birds of Children's Manga" alongside Osamu Tezuka and Eiichi Fukui, contributing to children's manga. While also creating manga for adults, he transitioned into the world of picture books, expanding his artistic endeavors further. It was during this time that his long-selling series, "11 Piki no Neko," was born. Whether in picture books or manga, Baba pursued a type of "good laughter" that brings people together, filling his works with heartwarming illustrations and deep-rooted humor that resonated with many.

This exhibition showcases Baba's representative manga and original illustrations from his picture books, along with a collection of secret sketchbooks accumulated over 50 years, paintings, and three-dimensional artworks. It offers a comprehensive view of Baba Noboru's creative roots and his lesser-known aspects, promising a delightful exploration of his artistic journey.
