New Spring Exhibition - Song and Raku Ware

Raku Museum
Finished
In the Japanese tea ceremony, it is common to quote and embody verses from waka (Japanese poetry) and kanshi (Chinese poetry), and to enhance the appeal of tea utensils, many names (mei) are taken from seasonal phrases in waka or a line from kanshi.

Raku ware pieces often bear inscriptions quoting waka or kanshi, adding further nuance to the warmth of Raku's distinctive clay, the softness of its glaze, and the quiet elegance of its forms.

In this exhibition, tea utensils with inscriptions and patterns inspired by seasonal phrases in waka and kanshi are paired together.
