Marie Laurencin et la Mode

Nagoya City Art Museum
Finished

Artists

Marie Laurencin
Paris in the 1920s, sandwiched between two world wars. It was a miraculous place where various talents crossed genres and produced exceptional fruits. Marie Laurencin and Coco Chanel, both born in 1883, represented the women who lived in this free era. Laurencin gained popularity for her graceful, pastel-colored images of women, while Chanel incorporated materials from men's clothing and sportswear into women's clothing.

This exhibition focuses on the activities of these two women, touching on their relationships with Paul Poiret, Jean Cocteau, Man Ray, Jeanne Lanvin, and others who colored the era, and tracing the dynamic development of art and fashion as they transcended their respective boundaries. The exhibition will feature approximately 90 works from domestic and international collections, including the Musée de l'Orangerie, the Centre Georges Pompidou, and the Musée Marie Laurencin.
