Hiroshige Utagawa
Hiroshige Utagawa (1797-1858) was an ukiyo-e artist who painted lyrical depictions of seasonal Japanese landscapes, flowers, adorable small animals, and the lives of local people. His masterpieces, "Tokaido Gojyosantsugi-no-uchi" and "Meisho Edo hyakkei (One Hundred Famous Views of Edo)," as well as his numerous landscapes of Edo and other scenes, were popular at the time, and are still loved by many people today without losing their charm.

In this exhibition, through the works of Utagawa Hiroshige from the first to the fifth generation in the collection of the Hiroshige Museum of Art (Tendo City, Yamagata Prefecture), visitors will learn how to see and appreciate Ukiyo-e and travel along the Tokaido Highway and through the countries that Hiroshige depicted to discover the charm of Ukiyo-e, which was loved by the people of Edo. The exhibition will also include a collection of warrior prints held by the Uesugi Museum in Yonezawa City.
