This exhibition project explores the sacred significance of Ise and Izumo throughout history. It begins by examining the historical roots of these regions and their connections to Japanese mythology. The project then delves into the origins of the Ise Grand Shrine and Izumo Taisha, tracing the history of rituals and relocations conducted by the priestess of Ise and local leaders of Izumo. It also highlights the development of these shrines from ancient to medieval times. Moreover, the exhibition showcases the culture of pilgrimage and faith in the early modern period, revealing how regional images of Ise and Izumo have spread throughout Japan and continue to be revered today.
