In Praise of Lacquer Art: Ryosai Misago

Itsuo Art Museum
Finished
Ryosai Misago (1887–1975) was a distinguished lacquer artist from the Taisho to Showa periods. Born in Nishinomiya, Misago initially studied Japanese painting before focusing on lacquerware. Known for a refined and painterly style, Misago was active in exhibitions and joined notable craft associations. Despite great skill, Misago remains relatively under-recognized. This exhibition is the first major showcase of Misago’s work in Japan, highlighting exceptional artistry.
