Hina Dolls and Modern Art - From Heizo Oki to Emile Gallé and Henri Matisse

Simose Art Museum
Finished
The Simose Art Museum was planned on the occasion of the 60th anniversary in 2018 of the Marui Sangyo Co., Ltd. and will finally open in Otake, Hiroshima. The opening commemorative exhibition will feature the Simose Collection. The Simose Collection began with the Hina and Gosho dolls of Heizo Oki and has expanded to include modern Japanese and Western paintings and crafts.

The exhibition will introduce the Shimose Collection in two parts. In the exhibition's first part, dolls (Maruhei dolls) and doll implements made by Heizo Oki will be displayed. Maruhei dolls were loved by the Imperial Court, the Mitsui family, the Iwasaki family, and other prominent families. This exhibition introduces Heizo Oki VII's Gosho dolls, Noh dolls, and Sekku dolls centering on Hina dolls and implements.

The exhibition's second part will display oil paintings, Japanese-style paintings, and craftwork in eight movable exhibition rooms. Each room will be themed, with glass works by Emile Gallé, Japanese paintings by Matazo Kayama, Western paintings by Henri Matisse and others, dolls by Simon Yotsuya, and more.
