Artists

Gozo Yoshimasu, Tatsumi Hijikata
The voice of Tatsumi Hijikata, the founder of Ankoku Butoh, moves the contemporary pinnacle poet, Gozo Yoshimasu. It is the sound of a voiceless voice echoing in the original landscape of Japan.

In this exhibition, Gozo Yoshimasu sought inspiration from the unique "voice" emanating from the body of the Butoh dancer, Tatsumi Hijikata. Influenced by Japanese culture, there are faint "voiceless voices" and "soundless sounds" lurking. These are the small "roots of sound" ("Ne no Ne") that seem to disappear into history, such as blind shamisen players, geisha singers, and spirit mediums. Gozo Yoshimasu is also a poet who listens to and expresses such "Ne no Ne".

In today's society, where it is necessary to listen to small voices, this exhibition provides viewers with an opportunity to nurture creativity by touching upon "Ne no Ne" through the expressions of poets, dancers, and leading artists in Japan.

In the gallery, in addition to Gozo Yoshimasu's newly written manuscripts and open productions, materials related to Tatsumi Hijikata will also be exhibited.
