The Tochigi City Art Museum, established in 2022, inherited the collection of its predecessor, the Tochigi Kuranomachi Museum of Art. It houses a collection centered around artists with connections to Tochigi City, including Western paintings, Japanese paintings, prints, sculptures, and crafts. Particularly notable are the bamboo crafts of two generations of Iizuka, Housai and Rokansai, as well as their disciple Bunseki Saito, who have become distinctive features of the museum's collection.

This exhibition, themed "Enjoying Summer: Bamboo Forms × Ceramic Colors," focuses on items such as bamboo flower baskets and ceramics decorated with motifs like water droplets, drawing from the museum's collection. Bamboo crafts include works from the collections of private collectors, showcasing pieces by both the first and second generations of Chikuunsai Tanabe, and offering a glimpse into bamboo craftsmanship in Tokyo and Osaka. Ceramic art features decorations crafted with exceptional skill by holders of Important Intangible Cultural Properties (commonly known as Living National Treasures) such as Kenkichi Tomimoto, Shoji Hamada, Hajime Kato, and Yuzo Kondo, displayed through donated ceramic and porcelain pieces at the museum.

Enjoy the refreshing atmosphere unique to the season through approximately 80 artworks, including paintings and calligraphy.
