Today, ukiyo-e is a representative art form of the Edo period, but at that time it was a medium widely supported by the general public.

Around the late 17th century, when ukiyo-e first began, the main subjects of Ukiyo-e were paintings of beautiful women and actors in the "two bad places," Yuuri and Kabuki, and in the late 18th century, the golden age of ukiyo-e began with the appearance of artists such as Utamaro Kitagawa and Sharaku Toshusai.

In the 19th century, when the culture of the general public matured, the range of people's activities and objects of entertainment further expanded, and a wide variety of subjects could be seen in ukiyo-e.

It was also during this period that the landscape paintings that emerged against the backdrop of the travel boom, as well as subjects that overlap with our contemporary concerns, such as pets, food, and hobbies, began to appear.

This exhibition will explore the secrets of "Edo life" with approximately 150 works by Katsushika Hokusai, Utagawa Hiroshige, Utagawa Kuniyoshi, and others, as well as food samples reproducing foods of the time, with keywords such as the booms (fads) that fascinated Edokko (Edo-ites) of the time and the many amusements that accompanied their daily lives.
