Artists

Alfons Mucha
Alphonse Mucha (1860-1939) was an artist who represented the Art Nouveau style that became popular in Europe at the end of the 19th century. Born in what is now the Czech Republic, Mucha loved drawing from a young age and aspired to become an artist. He initially remained unknown when he moved to Germany and France. His breakthrough came when he created stage posters starring Sarah Bernhardt, and thereafter, he continued to produce glamorous and delicate works, primarily focusing on posters.

Despite achieving remarkable success, Mucha gradually felt a desire to leave behind major works for his Slavic people in his homeland. He returned to his independent homeland after raising funds in America.

This exhibition introduces Mucha's glamorous decorative art and the art that expresses the soul of the Slavic people, tracing his lifelong artistic career.
