Aizo Tsuji
To commemorate the 60th anniversary of his death, a retrospective exhibition of Aizou Tsuji's work for the first time in 50 years will be held. Aizo Tsuji (1895-1964) was born in Osaka and studied Western painting at a school run by Rinsaku Akamatsu. In 1934 (Showa 9), he became a member of the Kokuga-kai (Japan Art Institute) and continued to exhibit at the Nitten (Japan Fine Arts Exhibition) until his passing. In 1928, he founded the Kourien Western Painting Research Institute and lived very close to the current location of the Ohtani Memorial Art Museum of Nishinomiya City, establishing deep ties with Nishinomiya. Shortly after the museum opened in 1973 (Showa 48), the "Aizo Tsuji Retrospective Exhibition," was held, and in 1992 (Heisei 4), we established a permanent exhibition in honor of Aizo Tsuji through the purchase and donation of his works. Since then, the museum has continued to introduce his works in various special exhibitions at the museum, but this time, the exhibition will explore the complete picture of Aizo Tsuji's work through four chapters.
