Tadashi Shimada
Tadashi Shimada (b. 1949) is known throughout the world as a photographer of animals and birds, especially kingfishers. His diverse works are highly acclaimed, ranging from powerful images of kingfishers, with their stately presence and divine vitality, to more subtle shots captured with a penchant for "learning from nature," a tradition of Japanese painting.

This exhibition introduces Shimada's photography from the past half century, including his first photograph of a shrike and images of the king bird-of-paradise, a creature on the island of New Guinea that fascinates with its mysterious ecology and gorgeous appearance. These works convey the charm of wild birds by encapsulating the moment when the beauty of each, observed through Shimada's refined eye, becomes apparent.
