Kodomo no Kuni (Aoba-ku, Yokohama) is a children's welfare facility that opened on May 5, 1965. The facility was developed on land formerly used as an ammunition depot for the Japanese Army, which was returned from the U.S. Army in 1961, with the cooperation of many private companies, organizations, and individuals, as well as government funds, in response to the wish of His Imperial Highness the Crown Prince, the present Emperor of Japan, that the congratulatory money donated by people all over Japan for his wedding be used for a facility that would benefit children. The project was developed on land formerly used for ammunition storage by the Japanese Army that was returned from the U.S. Army in 1961. The idea of creating a children's playground utilizing approximately 100 hectares of nature-rich land in the Tama Hills became a pioneering model for similar facilities that followed. This exhibition of the museum's collection, featuring drawings and photographs of the facility at the time of its opening, will take visitors on a journey back in time to the opening of Kodomo no Kuni a half-century ago.

This exhibition will also include a section introducing seven items from the museum's recent collection and will strive to make the collection accessible to the public.
