This exhibition introduces the collection items that children have shown interest in and responded to during the exhibition tours held in the past, and is a continuation of the 2015 exhibition.

Since 2012, the museum has been offering regular exhibition tours for infants and their parents. This program is designed to provide a place for infants and toddlers to encounter artwork and to promote communication between parents and children through art appreciation. In these tours, participants view exhibitions that are intended for the general public. During the tour, parents are asked to record which works of art their children responded to and how they reacted to them.

Analysis of the records for the approximately 1,000 people who have participated to date has yielded interesting results. Not only do children respond to colorful artwork, animal artwork, and other artwork that children enjoy, but they also respond to abstract artwork and artwork that adults find difficult to approach and that gives a subdued impression. Children are also known to have unique perspectives based on their stage of development. Art appreciation is never too early or too difficult for young children. Young children, who cannot read, can sense something from the artwork itself and react to it. Their words and attitudes may be more to the essence of the artwork than one might expect. They are free and genuine in their appreciation of the artwork.

Based on the results of our tours from 2015 to the present, this exhibition has been designed to introduce work that infants and toddlers have shown a great deal of interest in, without preconceptions of adults. Panels introducing infants' reactions and words, as well as comments from their parents, will be displayed next to the exhibited work.
