Masato Seto
Masato Seto (1953- ) was born in Udon Thani, Thailand to a Japanese father and a Vietnamese mother, and moved to his father's hometown of Yanagawa in Fukushima Prefecture in 1961. After graduating from high school, he moved to Tokyo to study photography. In 1996, he won the 21st Kimura Ihei Photography Award for "Living Room, Tokyo 1989-1994" and "Silent Mode," which looked at people living in the city from a unique perspective. In 2021, he was awarded the 37th Higashikawa Photography Award for Domestic Artists and is active both in Japan and abroad as one of Japan's leading photographers. This exhibition traces Seto's "map of memories" by showing his debut work "Bangkok, Hanoi," "Fukushima," which he has continued to photograph as his life's work from his early days until after the earthquake, and his latest work "Silent Mode 2020".
