At times her work shocks the audience with its grotesque and obscene manner, creating parody and taboos of Western art, but it also holds the strength to break the orthodox history of Japanese photographs. This spring, Utsu participated in the “Creator in Residence ‘Ei’” program for the Shodoshima Future Project – Setouchi Triennale 2016 in which she produced her sculptural work ‘Fish Farm House.’ Whilst filled with humor, her new work also reveals Utsu’s serious perspective on the lifestyle of people who reside on Shodoshima Island.
