Shoji Iida
Iida Shoji was born in 1927 in Shizuoka prefecture. He learned drawing and painting by himself after graduation from industrial high school in China. His early works were exhibited at “Yomiuri Independent” from 1954 to 1958 and he came to expand his work through an encounter with art critic Ishiko Junzo (1928-1977). In this exhibition, “Things Exist Beyond Gen-Shoku”, a selection of his major works including “Half and Half” series and “Paper” (1969, re-created for this exhibition), photographs and sculptures from 80s, and some of his latest works on paper will be on display.
