Yuki Iiyama
Yuki Iiyama looks for traces of people and events of the past in the scrapbooks he obtains from places such as Yahoo Auction, collecting images and stories as he searches. With scrapbooks of Taisho-era newspaper articles on the Imperial Family and government officials as its point of departure, this exhibition explores the the emergence of the Empress into public life, an important condition for Japan’s transformation into a modern state, and the places tied to a policy of isolation for Hansen’s Disease patients, which occurred around same time.
