Masuki Komatsu
Masuki Komatsu (1904-2002) was born in Kochi City and studied at the Tokyo School of Fine Arts. After graduating from the school, he returned to his hometown of Kochi but later considered moving back to Tokyo. During his journey, he stopped in Kobe and was deeply captivated by the exotic atmosphere of the Western-style architecture and rich landscapes he encountered there. Komatsu decided to settle in Kobe and continue his artistic endeavors. While working on his art in the streets, he would sometimes be approached by passersby, to which he would kindly respond.

This exhibition commemorates the 120th anniversary of Masuki Komatsu, who was beloved by the people of Kobe. Experience a stroll through the streets of Kobe and European cities through Komatsu's works, and enjoy various aspects such as the changes in Kobe's landscape over time and the enduring unchanged scenery of European cities.
