Artists

Yuto Yonemura
Yuto Yonemura is an artist who creates works based on his fascination with mythical gods and other superhuman entities, as well as his personal experiences and obsessions with specific individuals. From a young age, influenced by his father, he was drawn to the forms and craftsmanship of anime heroes and robot figures. This interest, combined with his reflections on modern sculpture history and mythology, led him to create sculptures he calls "Superhuman Figures."

In this exhibition, Yonemura will present three sculptural works from his "Balone" series, created over approximately two years from June 2022 to July 2023. The term "balone" is a coined word combining "barom," the title of his solo exhibition at the Kyoto City Kyocera Museum's "The Triangle," and "alone." It represents a situation where there is an attempt to unite or connect with something, but it ultimately fails. "Barom" references the 1970s tokusatsu hero program "Superhuman Barom-1," where two boys merge to become superhuman.

Through his work, Yonemura connects the history of sculpture with his personal, often disjointed stories and unexpected experiences, aiming to distance himself from the traditionally masculine strength and heaviness associated with sculpture. Instead, he seeks to highlight imperfection and vulnerability.
