Starts 4/12

Artists

Yumiko Matsui
1010 Art will present “Quatre saisons (Four seasons),” the first solo exhibition in Yokohama in two years by Yumiko Matsui, artist and art director, from April 12 to 27, 2025. In this exhibition, Yumiko Matsui will present works in acrylic, watercolor, and semi-3-dimensional objet d'art, depicting the glimmer of “each time” that is somehow far away in the distance. In mid-April, when the cherry blossoms are over in the Kanto region, why does everything seem to shine in the bright sunlight?

Yumiko Matsui's works are not only visually beautiful, but also have a deep message that delves deeply into time, memory, and human emotions, making viewers feel as if they are in a specific time and place. Her works evoke memories of nostalgic people and places, and serve to reaffirm cultural values through a reinterpretation of the landscape in contemporary Japan. She also works as an art director, providing artwork for musicians and celebrities, and art direction for global brands in Japan, among other creative endeavors. This attitude of balancing her activities as an artist with her role as an in-house creator is part of her appeal.
