Yumeji Takehisa
Known as a painter and poet of the Taisho Romanticism era, Yumeji Takehisa (1884-1934) spent a significant portion of his life traveling, drawing inspiration for his creations. He visited numerous places from Tohoku to Kyushu, and in his later years, he embarked on a two-year-four-month journey through Europe and the United States. Wandering through unfamiliar lands, Takehisa continued to express his solitude and melancholy through his artworks.

While accumulating experiences through his travels, Takehisa also examined everyday matters from the perspective of a traveler with a fresh sensitivity, incorporating various surprises and discoveries into his creations. Moreover, his works, brimming with exotic atmospheres, showcased Yumeji's rich imagination, revealing his unique world.

This exhibition will trace Yumeji Takehisa's journey, from his boyhood dreams of travel to the long-cherished overseas expedition, offering insights into the trajectory of his travels.
