The exhibition "Yuichi Hirako x Nerima Art Museum Collection" is a collaboration between Yuichi Hirako (1982-), an up-and-coming artist living in Nerima, and the museum collection. The artist will select, analyze, and interpret 10 paintings from the museum's collection through his own eyes, create new paintings incorporating various elements from these works, and present them to the public with the selected collection.

Yuichi Hirako's work focuses on the coexistence of plants, nature, and humans and the ambiguities and questions that emerge in this relationship. Inspired by his discomfort with the definition of "nature" as plants controlled by humans, such as houseplants, roadside trees, and plants planted in parks, he explores the boundaries between nature and humans in contemporary society through the creation of his work. Hirako's paintings of plants, vases, books, and everyday objects are richly colored, and they attract viewers with a sense of fantasy and humor. The paintings are also lightheartedly guided by a figure that is a fusion of a tree and a human.

The title of this exhibition was given by the artist himself, with the meaning that the heritage of the museum's collection (inheritance) will be transformed (metamorphosed) by another artist, Yuichi Hirako, and reborn with a contemporary sensibility. It is an interactive attempt to transcend time and space and to explore the creative possibilities that connect the past to the future.
