You Left Me Breathing

Pool Side Gallery

Artists

Tracey Emin, Namae Myoji, Jiro Takamatsu, Keisuke Jinba, Richard Prince, Takuya Kumagai
This exhibition presents contemporary artists alongside the works of those who have inspired them, creating a dialogue that highlights the non-linear connections in art history and the underlying motifs within each piece. The title "You Left Me Breathing" is a reference to Tracey Emin's first solo exhibition at the Gagosian Gallery in 2007. It evokes a dual sense of ambiguity, referring to a woman who has been abused and left half-dead yet still breathing, or a woman left breathless after an intimate encounter.

'You Left Me Breathing' (You stopped my breath / You kept me breathing). Each contemporary artist lives with the legacy of historical artistic origins and numerous creative encounters that have both stifled and inspired them. This recalls Bertolt Brecht's famous line from his play "Life of Galileo": "Unhappy is the land that needs a hero." This exhibition is designed for those artists, and for everyone, who find contemporary art indispensable.
