GALLERY crossing opened in 2017 along the old Nakasendo Highway in Minokamo, Gifu. Director Misa Kuromoto defines "circulation," "wind & soil," "humanity," "cultivation," and "voyage" as the five concepts that make up the gallery. In recent years, the gallery has paid particular attention to artists who possess insights into the relationship between nature and humans, sensibilities attuned to invisible existence and presence, and oriental aesthetics as outlined in Jun'ichiro Tanizaki's "In Praise of Shadows." Reflecting on works that pose universal questions that transcend time and space against the backdrop of individual roots, traditions, history, and culture will encourage individual growth and a broader understanding of our increasingly diverse world.
