Yoshikazu Yamagata
Known for his narrative collections inspired by myths and other sources, Yoshikazu Yamagata's fashion label, Writtenafterwards, explores nostalgic expressions while pursuing the purity of "adornment" of the heart. Works such as "The Seven Gods," which prayed for regeneration since 3.11; "Graduate Fashion Show," imbued with irony towards the fashion industry; "After Wars," themed on post-war and Japanese collectivism; and "Isolated Memories," depicting a new human image away from the pandemic-stricken city on a deserted island, boldly incorporate challenges to capitalist society and historical perspectives, always garnering attention beyond the realm of fashion.

Additionally, Yamagata, also known as an educator, leads the fashion private school "coconogacco," providing a platform for individuals to observe their place and society, launching their unique expressions from "here" through learning and experimentation.

In his first solo exhibition at a museum, Yamagata will introduce the journey of Writtenafterwards while bringing to light his interpretation of the "now/here" of Japanese society and fashion expression through new installations. Yamagata describes "writtenafterwards" as meaning "afterword" or "postscript." Continuously facing himself and society through fashion, Yamagata reflects on what personal stories he can add amid the tumultuous waves of history, such as the tragedies in Ukraine and Gaza, and the Noto Peninsula earthquake.
