Yokoo Tadanori: Be Physical!

Yokoo Tadanori Museum of Contemporary Art
Starts 5/24

Artists

Tadanori Yokoo
There is a direct connection between Yokoo Tadanori’s art and the physical body. Not only does he depict the human form, but Yokoo’s work also embodies his artistic approach of abandoning reason and thought, and wielding his brush by following the flow of the body.

In this exhibition, we introduce expressionistic works that strongly reflect Yokoo’s own physicality as a “Depicting Body” and his take on the morotai or obscure style of painting, and a diverse range of “Depicted Body” based on motifs such as Mishima Yukio and Lisa Lyon. We hope this will give you an opportunity to examine the body in Yokoo’s art from the perspective of both the subject and the object, and finally to consider what might lie ahead in a world “Beyond the Body.”

Please enjoy experiencing this realm of creation that Yokoo cultivated by throwing himself into his work after his so-called “painter’s declaration” in the 1980s.
