Yasutaka Yano, Hiroki Sakai
Hiroki Sakai creates self-portraits. In addition to exhibiting paintings of himself, he also sells his works through an online shop. Sakai mentions that his work is not intended to communicate something to others but is created solely for himself. Although he has consistently painted self-portraits since his undergraduate days, the content of these works has gradually evolved. For instance, he has moved from depicting self-portraits with open eyes to those with closed eyes. In another case, when attempting to paint a face from the front, he ended up creating a self-portrait from behind because the brushstrokes suggested the back of the head. For Sakai, the act of continuously painting self-portraits can also be seen as a process of recognizing something unexpected, even to himself.

On the other hand, Yasutatka Yano incorporates both painting and language into his exhibitions. The motifs Yano paints can be divided into two main categories. One is the universal attributes he possesses, such as body parts like feet or mouth. The other category consists of objects that simply catch his interest at a particular moment, such as raccoons, dekopon oranges, underwear, or fruits. While Yano sometimes uses words in his exhibitions, they are not organized as typical captions. Instead, words are presented in the form of flashcards placed in the exhibition space, with the idea that viewers will flip through them while appreciating the paintings. In Yano's work, the words serve as a bridge between the viewer, the artist, and the painting.

The exhibition is titled "Inner Side Wind," and Yano expresses a desire to improve the "ventilation" of various categories, such as the genre of painting, or identities like human and male, during his creative process. Additionally, the two artists note that their "speed" in both creative and personal interactions contrasts with one another. This difference is also reflected in their approach to their work: Sakai has been consistently working on self-portraits for over six years, while Yano's themes change constantly.
