Yasuko Aoike
Yasuko Aoike, a master of shojo manga, was born in Chofu, Shimonoseki City in 1948. This exhibition presents the unique world of this author, who made her debut at the age of 15 in 1963 with "Goodbye Nanette" (published in the New Year's Extra Edition of "Ribon" in 1964) and is still actively working today.

The exhibition will showcase her groundbreaking works that shocked the manga world in the 1970s, such as "Sons of Eve," the long-running hit "From Eroica with Love" set against the backdrop of the Cold War, and historical romances from the 1980s onward ("Alcazar: The King's Castle," "Monk Falco," and "Cologne Police Officer Odo"). These grand narratives, mainly set in Europe, boast highly sophisticated historical and art historical research and attract a wide range of readers across genders and ages.

This exhibition will feature approximately 300 original drawings, including carefully selected color manuscripts owned by Akita Shoten and monochrome manuscripts not displayed in previous exhibitions. It is a rare opportunity to fully enjoy the world of Yasuko Aoike's works and their splendid and meticulous visions.
