・The Enchantment of The Tale of Genji
Written by Murasaki Shikibu, The Tale of Genji is a timeless masterpiece that has fascinated readers for over a thousand years. Despite its Heian-period origins, its complex characters and poetic language continue to captivate audiences today. The work has profoundly influenced Japanese literature, performing arts, and visual arts, inspiring numerous adaptations and derivative works. This exhibition explores the rich cultural history of The Tale of Genji, highlighting its enduring appeal.

・The Bloom of Courtly Culture
The court, including the Emperor, the imperial family, and their attendants, was a birthplace of cultural elements. It gave rise to seasonal events, waka poetry like the Kokin Wakashu, narrative literature such as The Tale of Genji, and refined court attire and scents. This culture, known as "miyabi" captivated both its contemporaries and future generations. This exhibition explores the court culture developed and maintained by the Heian period and beyond.
