Artists

Wataru Ito, Macoto Nakada
Artists Wataru Ito and Macoto Nakada are highly skilled and realistic, and their detailed worldviews make the viewer's hearts dance. This exhibition marks the first time that the two artists have exhibited together.

Ito's works, which embody a variety of themes from familiar motifs to the creation of abstract worlds and are assembled from surprisingly elaborate parts, are always created using only white Kent paper. Ito also draws on the techniques and philosophies he learned from his study of lacquerware and sublimates them to an endless quality that transcends the realm of paper craft. Machines, his specialty motifs, are expressed with a gaze that seems to approach so that the viewer steps inside and feels their breath as if looking at this world that continues unceasingly.

Nakada creates a mechanical view of the world by repeatedly generating small parts of everyday motifs and elaborately combining and multiplying them, just as the years create nature in a precise manner. Furthermore, Nakada's special technique, based on his experience in seal production, is so precise that it is reminiscent of microns. He incorporates his respect for the high precision of nature into his ultimate electronic worldview, linking the beauty of wood, a symbol of nature that is always there, with familiar motifs.

Their infinite mechanisms, which evoke a sense of never-ending time, ultimately return respectively to the simple but powerful life force of "paper and wood," an ancient Japanese material. In this exhibition, which features works by both artists that are formed as if they were breathing through the materials, visitors will be able to see their exquisite craftsmanship and at the same time feel their humorous breath, which makes the two groups of works highly entertaining. It is as if a vast amount of information is being reduced to life-like capillaries, giving the viewer such a sensory experience.
